Description
Canon 100mm Macro Lens
This Canon 100mm macro lens offers you a great open when you need to reproduce life-sized images. It has an excellent, quick and very quiet auto-focus. Switching between auto-focus and manual focus is easily done via the switch on the barrel. This switch is easily toggled via the thumb. The focus ring itself is broad, with a satisfying feel to it, and can be used to make adjustments while the lens is set to AF mode. As with true macro lenses the focusing range can also be set via a second switch on the barrel.
The lens is also marked with reproduction ratios as well as the focused distance. On the Canon 100mm this information is displayed inside a small window on the top of the lens barrel. It’s well placed and easy to read it at a glance.
The object you are filming can be set at a predetermined scale by choosing the MF mode and setting the desired reproduction-ratio in the distance window. The object or the camera is then moved forwards and backwards to achieve sharp focus.
This is generally a fine lens for a number of macro filming applications, however, we do notice that the lens is much sharper above f4, with the resolution dropping a little below that. To that end, despite the aperture going all the way down to f2.8 we recommend using this lens with plenty of light.
