Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera 4k
The Blackmagic Micro Studio Camera is a tiny Ultra HD camera head with an MTF mount. It’s another welcome innovation from the Australian company.
It really is a small camera!
But the Micro Studio Camera punches way above its weight and is packed full of useful features. Designed with live broadcast set-ups in mind, the Micro Studio Camera also lends itself to any shoot where size, weight and ultimate flexibility are a key consideration.
There’s no built-in screen or onboard recording. The camera is designed to be remote operated and placed in hard reach (and hard to believe) places. We think it could make a brilliant companion to the lightweight Ronin-M using one of our 4k recorders like the Blackmagic Video Assist 4k or the Atomos Shogun.
The picture quality has the lustre and depth of other Blackmagic products and has the distinct advantage of outputting 10 bit data instead of the 8 bit of say, the Sony A7S. However because of its tiny size, the sensor is Super16 size and so your wide angle lens will be a 9mm. Having a smaller sensor can also result in a more ‘video’ look, and there’s no log modes you can set. Having said that, you can adjust your look in camera using Da Vinci colour correcting software to match your other cameras before you hit record. The remote controls are also infinitely adaptable and can be operated by either standard or non-standard equipment.
The Micro Studio camera is all about compatibility and can be rigged on tripods, sliders, gimbals, motorised heads, pretty much anywhere, on anything. It’s native MTF but can also accommodate and power B4 broadcast lenses. Furthermore, it will support a PL mount adapter so you can use your cinema lenses.
